“Grace and Grit: How I Won My Fight at Goodyear and Beyond”
Tireless advocate at the center of the fight for equal pay in the workplace who has made frequent appearances on MSNBC, CBS This Morning, and more
At the center of the historic discrimination case that inspired the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act, Ledbetter’s determined fight for equal pay in the workplace became a victory for the nation.
After 19 tireless, successful years as a supervisor at Goodyear, she suspected she wasn’t getting paid as much as her male counterparts. When her suspicions were confirmed, she brought an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Complaint against Goodyear, and won. However, they appealed to the Supreme Court, where it was overturned. This decision motivated legal groups and politicians and on January 29, 2009, the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act was the first act of Congress signed by President Obama—making it easier for women who have experienced pay discrimination to fight back.
