Beyond Charlottesville: Where is the Line Between Free Speech and Hate Speech?

Mar 20, 2018
7:00 PM - 8:30 PM

Description

Please join us for the third or our four-part series Beyond Charlottesville.

The resurgence of the “Alt-Right” movement in the wake of the 2016 election has given new urgency to the question of how to balance the right of such hate groups to openly express their opinions against the right of their targets to live free of threats and harassment. How does a free society balance those competing, and apparently conflicting, demands?

This panel discussion will include Georgia Ulmschneider, Esq., professor of Political Science, and Dr. Steven Carr, interim chair and professor of Communication. It will be moderated by Brandon Bouchillon, professor of Communication.
